No Textbook is required for the course, but if you want a textbook, the ASHP Manual for Pharmacy Technicians is probably the best choice. - Peter
ASHP Manual for Pharmacy Technicians, 3rd Edition
The American Society for Health-System Pharmacists publishes a Manual for Pharmacy Technicians that can be obtained for about $53 (+tax and shipping) through the ETSU Medical Bookstore. This is the best price I have found for the book (let us know if you find a better price and we'll share it!). Contact marilyngb@hotmail.com for more information on ordering through the ETSU Medical Bookstore. A description is given below.
In addition to helping technicians prepare for the pharmacy technician certification exam, this comprehensive manual serves as an excellent general reference for technicians in any practice setting. It is written and reviewed by practicing pharmacists and certified pharmacy technicians.
The book includes sample and test calculation problems, a review of pharmacy law, a review of medical terminology and abbreviations, discussions of aseptic technique and sterile product preparation, discussions of medication errors, medication order and prescription interpretation guidelines, and discussions of practice settings.
For the new 3rd edition, content has been enhanced to apply to all practice settings. Also included are new chapters on Medical Terminology and Abbreviations; Biopharmaceutics; and Understanding Physiology - plus an enhanced glossary and index.
